dc HOMMAGE + a Winner!

The dc this time revolves around "homage " well-chosen by the very talented Kristen - thank you for this beautiful theme !
Here you will find , as always, all other creative homages. My hommage goes to Maria Sybilla Merian, an artist and naturalist , who lived 1647 - 1717 and at the very old age of 52 years at those times she undertook as a woman ! alone with her daughter  an adventurous trip to Suriname to continue to work on their beloved natural
studies of butterflies , insects and other animals.
Mind you all that 100 years BEFORE Alexander von Humboldt !
He of course is much better known, but this is again a completely different topic.

She will be the next for my " series" on " Great Women "

For the drawing challenge I wanted something like a fictional diary of her trip (of course only in parts) and have specially bought this mold-made watercolor paper, but found that the surface is so rough that drawing was nearly unpossible on it, so I tried on Encaustic ... Since I have no idea of the technique, I did not find it easy and was also on the verge of giving up and just to draw on plain paper. But I persevered and the result is not so bad, I think. It should just look old, weathered and a bit worn out by the adventurous journey.

P.S. I'm the host for next weeks dc!

And then there is a winner this weekend!
The lucky winner is Astridka!
Congratulations you get a small notebook with your favorite collage.

Und während andere fleissig Arbeiten an neuen Notiz- und Skizzenbüchern z.B. ...

And while others busy work on new notebooks and sketchbooks i.e....

are there others that are just bored.

Astrid

ha ha ha... yummi! now look at her, she understands, you know, bee. she quite simply does. she's a natural...;)))

so wonderful you throw light upon one brave woman conquering the world as a female, and then with her daughter, a year before a male does the same and gets rewarded. rrgrgrghghghg.
but you know? paying homage to her memory is absolutely brave and necessary. and you have succeeded mildly and wildly at the theme of imaging her natural crusade. like! would like to just touch it, yeah?

congrats to astridka. lucky girl!

see you next weekend on the dc, well, before too.
oh, and yes! to candles, more tonight!

Barbara your artistic hand has created a little masterpiece of encaustic genius. I am swooning to almost fainting over the exquisite beauty of this piece. You are a talent, dear art friend. Well I just love your work and don't know what else to say...except that maybe you have inspired me to get back to my little bookmaking which I've been ignoring for too long! Hugs, Norma, xo
Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful adventurous woman! :)

funny , you talk of giving up and perseverance while the result in the end doesn't show because it looks perfect.
it has that air of a book that has travelled far, notes have been scribbled down, illustrations painted, a beautiful homage.
I'm looking forward to your post on Maria Sybilla Merian, i'm familiar with her work but i don't know much about the artist herself.

the 'bored one' looks so sweet :) xx

Barbara! I want to apologize for not having come to see your homage! And I want to thank you, because you told me, because I was missing out on seeing your wonderful and excellent work!
I did not know this woman (obviously very brave) I guess, but, in those days, what would Surinam (here in America) imagine, nothing more, which would be for a woman in those days, getting on a boat with no amenities , with a lot of tough guys, and traveling to an unknown world, a brave woman, as it remains today, thousands of women daily, fighting for their lives, their family, to develop their talents, Etc, Etc .
OK. I loved your post. and I loved your art!
Thank you very much for your comment!
PS: your dog is...Beautiful!!!!!!!
