Water means life, for without water no life can probably arise.
A drop of water is not only clear transparent liquid,
but under the microscope unfold quite amazing worlds
like here in this example left a water flea,
who subsist from ball alga Pandorina
(what a pretty name!) right pic..

Der deutsche Forscher und Wissenschaftler Ernst August Haeckel (1834 - 1919)
erforschte u.a.
The German explorer and scientist Ernst August Haeckel (1834 - 1919)
explored, inter alia, one-celled animals, radiolarians, medusae and siphonophores.
But he was not only researchers, but also a gifted artist as all

But he was not only researchers, but also a gifted artist as all
illustrations coming from his hand are still impressively
demonstrate by their fidelity to nature and plasticity.
These have because of their material wealth still scientific value.
AND what is even more important, they are beautiful and an inexhaustible
source of inspiration for me and I can recommend his books you just warmest,
they are worth every penny! here and here

These two paintings of me from 2009 are Haeckel inspired and
combine pattern formation and "line drawing" and just need
to fill the gap, because the original image is in the exhibition.
And please do not forget to visit our talented Patrice,
who had the idea for the theme of water this week and
to leave there inspired by all the other posts!

oh, thank you for sharing these pieces by Ernst August Haeckel, I love his art and studies.
this is a wonderful post on water, and your art is a joy to see.
Such magical and interesting water photos too!
Oh yes what beauty there is in water! Loved your post.
OK. Barbara, after watching this, I think when I have before me a drop of water will be more careful, all that kind of strange beings, will come to my dreams tonight!
very good idea, inspired by the microscopic world!
How is your mood? Better? I hope so!
good week for you! :)
Holy smokes Barbara, I love all these. Do you have these old books? I have a few. Your lovely paintings certainly do inspire thoughts of the sea and plankton. Beautiful. :)
ha. haeckel... to die for; these dazzling shapes and colours... i believe haeckel mastered the conjuction between science and art like no other can [well, him ànd blossfeldt, perhaps]. his plates are timeless, and so very inspiring. in fact they really do reproduce the zest of life, hereby demonstrating all is everything. i fall for his ability, this morning again. lovely.
[gimme time. things are moderately okay.]

Ouoooh, looove this post, dear Barbara! Sehr!
Herzlichst, Ariane xo
Oh, Barbara, this post brings back such memories for me of being a child with a microscope and access to an irrigation ditch. We would collect water and slip a slide under the lens of the microscope and gaze transfixed at the mysterious life zooming around in a drop of water!
Thanks for Haeckel - I must see more!
